There is nothing I love more than supporting Filipino businesses in the UK, and Kalye de Manila is one of those brands that I will continue to advocate for until it receives the hype it deserves. Open on weekends at the Backyard Market in London, the menu is modest with five items, but all in their finest fighting form. It's all about quality over quantity for this food stall and note that nothing is over £10!!! It's Filipino, it's authentic, it's budget, it's delicious, it hits ALL MY BOXES.

The Lola's Classic Chicken Adobo (£9) has the house rice with greens on the side. A family recipe, I told my boyfriend that their adobo is as authentic as you can get it as my family makes adobong puti (white adobo). Lola's Adobo is saucy, savory, pulled-from-the-bone for easier eating, and simple. It's authentic and truly tastes like home. It’s also a full meal for its price so come hungry because the serving is generous! If you've never had adobo before, this is one to try! Also a good shout if you want to introduce your friends to Filipino Food!

Something I miss the most about Manila is the abundance of smoked and grilled food... Mang Inasal IYKYK! The charcoal-grilled boneless chicken is served three ways, as a wrap, as a salad (Kalye Chix Salad Box, £7), and, as this is a Filipino stall, as a rice meal (Dad's Chix BBQ, £9). We had the Kalye Chix Wrap (£7), which seemed to be popular with his regulars as well. The wrap is PACKED with that smoky chicken, greens, and sauces. Value for money at seven quid a pop! Get this and the turon and you're good to go!

The Turon (£4) is a DREAM. It's reason alone to visit the stall. Turon is a deep-fried snack in the Philippines made of bananas and jackfruit, dosed with caramel syrup. It's essentially a banana fritter, but the Filipino version is better! Although Kayle De Manila is proud to be a street stall, their turon is worthy of being served at The Manila Hotel. The ube cream pairs perfectly with the deep fried banana, and the caramel sauce just brings it all together. 5 Stars!

Kalye De Manila is owned and managed by Chef Edwin, a lone trader and lone businessman! It's his passion project and weekend side hustle. He invited me to try his food and I couldn't wait to visit the stall because his business is new and upcoming! A notable thing about Chef Edwin is his infectious smile; you can just tell that he is proudly representing the Philippines through this venture. And I love that!!! He's hospitable and gives that signature Filipino warmth and service to every customer; no wonder he's got so many regulars already!

Chef Edwin hangs the Philippine flag as a marker to his regulars that he is serving that day. Thus, if there's no flag at the Backyard Market, the Chef is off-duty! Taking a much-needed and well-deserved break!

Make sure you visit this place before it inevitably makes waves online and a queue forms all the way to the other street.

I highly recommend this quaint stall and wish it all the best in its journey in the bustling London culinary scene, in which it will surely thrive and triumph. It has all the right ingredients to make a big bang, I'm manifesting it! Mabuhay ka Chef Edwin! Laban!!! (Long live, Chef Edwin! Fighting!)
